From the dusty, dying towns of "Nebraska" to the rooftop Roman parties in "The Great Beauty" to the sleek future Los Angeles of Her, 2013 has been a trip. But has it been a great year?

Negativity reached a fever pitch in the summer when Steven Spielberg lamented Hollywood's risk-adverse, finance-driven blockbusterism. The grim, humourless Man of Steel and its careless backdrop of mass destruction was a low point: the epitome of everything bad about movies today. Yet ambitious films gathered in number as the year went on, and many began calling 2013 a historically excellent year for film, after all.

Here are one critic's top picks of the year, all of them reasons why 2013 was a good year for the big screen:

1. 12 Years a Slave — Steve McQueen's masterful adaptation of Solomon Northup's 1853 memoir is simply a powerhouse. McQueen, I suspect, will never make a comedy; his three movies (Shame, Hunger) reveal him a harsh storyteller, drawn down dark rabbit holes. But his lack of sentimentality gives 12 Years a Slave its clarity: a long overdue correction to cinema's reluctant treatment of slavery. As Northup, Chiwetel Ejiofor's soulful eyes carry us through a nightmare odyssey of America's past.

2. Mud — From the plantations of mid-19th century Louisiana, we travel up river to contemporary Arkansas in Jeff Nichols' Twain-esque tale of boyhood on the Mississippi. With the wise-beyond-his-years Tye Sheridan as the 14-year-old Ellis, Mud is a full-hearted American fable.

3. Frances Ha — Full disclosure: I'm in love with Greta Gerwig. That bias notwithstanding, Noah Baumbach's latest — co-written by and starring Gerwig — is a lovely ode to its title character (who has much in common with Gerwig, herself). Frances is an idiosyncratic 27-year-old finding her place in New York; where the "Ha" comes from is answered in the film's sweet final moment.

4. Inside Llewyn Davis — Like Frances, Llewyn is a striving Manhattanite without an apartment or a steady job. But he's much angrier about it. The Coen brothers' melancholy story of a bitter, unfortunate folk singer is a wry commentary on the cruelness of fate, and melody born out of disharmony.

5. The Hunt — In the most haunting film of the year, the weak binds of a seemingly close-knit Danish community disintegrate when a kindergarten teacher (Mads Mikkelsen) is unjustly accused of sexually assaulting a child.

6. The Great Beauty — Fellini looms large in Paolo Sorrentino's portrait of Rome in decadent decay. Sorrentino is an exquisite stylist (the opening minutes of his Il Divo are pure, blistering cinema), and The Great Beauty is manic and overstuffed. But it's bursting with life. (Literally. It's got a giraffe.)

7. "Gravity" — So simple you could make the case that Alfonso Cuaron's 3-D spectacle is a bit banal. But, man, is it something to look at. The movie won't be remembered for its thin story, but at a time when television's rise is much discussed, "Gravity" reinvigorated the big screen experience.

8. Blue Is the Warmest Color — Several films this year were fascinating snapshots of lives in motion. The powerful, simply told Bill Moyers' documentary Two American Families kept up with two struggling middle-class families for 20 years. And Richard Linklater has covered two decades in the lives of a Paris woman (Julie Delpy) and American writer (Ethan Hawke) in his day-in-a-life series, culminating in Before Midnight. But Abdellatif Kechiche's Palme d'Or-winner (also called The Life of Adele: Chapters 1&2) is the most memorable for its extreme closeness in portraying a teenager's awakening to herself and the world. Adele Exarchopoulus' performance is staggeringly open. The irony is that the infamous sex scenes in this flawed but arresting coming-of-age tale are easily the most artificial parts in it.

9. This Is the End — The jokes just come and come. Nobody had a better time making a movie this year than Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, and it's written all over their self-parodying apocalypse comedy.

10. The Spectacular Now and Short Term 12 — Movies that honestly represent teenage life are seldom, but both of these films magically move from familiar plot lines to somewhere honest. The high-school comedy of The Spectacular Now, starring Miles Teller, smacks up against hard realities. Short Term 12, starring Brie Larson, tenderly depicts a foster-care facility and its young supervisors without resorting to clichés.

Also: Her, Nebraska, Rush, A Band Called Death, Elysium, Fruitvale Station, Captain Phillips, Upstream Color, 'Enough Said, Blue Jasmine.

Christmas Cheer

Christmas is a funny sort of thing. It is something that we spend the entire year looking forward to, but then when it gets here we can’t wait for it to go away. It’s like spending thousands on the holiday of a lifetime, then realizing that you are homesick while you are on the beach or sitting around the pool.
So what do we all need to do in order to make Christmas as exciting and as extravagant as ever before, and even more so than in the past? We came up with five great ideas for a loud and exciting Christmastime.

External Lighting

Is there anything that shouts “CHRISTMAS” more than external Christmas lights on a home? The key to success here is to find the perfect balance between tasteful extravagance and just downright tackiness. It is our view that perhaps the more simple your lights, the better. If you decide to add a Santa, then a reindeer, then a penguin, then a snowman, you will soon find yourself not only looking like a Christmas retail store, but with an electricity bill that will make you turn into Ebeneezer Scrooge for the rest of time.
Keep it simple, keep the cost down, and indulge in quiet extravagance.

Fireworks Displays

If you have children in the house, then they are probably hugely excited when they go to a fireworks display, or can see one from their bedroom window. As its Christmas, why not push the boat out and bring the display to your home. You don’t need to spend fortunes on garden fireworks, and a simple display can make you the envy of the whole neighborhood. Let it be known you will be holding a fireworks display, and you might even find yourself popular with some extra bonus presents!

Statement Gifts

Let’s be honest, what do people like better when it comes to opening gifts? Do they want lots of small “stocking fillers” that will soon be broken or got bored of, or the statement gift that will be used for months to come? We’re not suggesting you go out and buy a Mac Book Pro for the whole family, but think practical in your gift buying, and you will find that the extravagance speaks for itself.

Christmas Dinner

This point isn’t for everyone, however at Christmas you tend to find more exotic, shall we say, meat options in stores. If you want to be a little flashier with your Christmas dinner this year, scrap the traditional turkey and opt for venison or veal instead.

Alcohol

Look, if you are going to stock up on alcoholic beverages for yourself and potential house guests this Christmas, then you might as well do it in style and go for the tastier, expensive variety. Even the best brands will be heavily discounted at this time of year, so you can be extravagant and classy – and show off a little – without spending all of your shopping budget on booze.

Fireworks Crazy are a premium fireworks display and e-commerce website. Fireworks Crazy provide a wide range of fireworks for sale across the whole year, including small fireworks packages suitable for home garden displays.

This year saw X Factor finalists pick
their own winners song – for the first time since 2010. Jahmene sung The
Beatles’ Let It Be whilst James plumped for Shontelle’s Impossible.

Jahmene took to the stage forthe Beatles classic Let It Be. The large
choir made a return and Jahmene just used his voice (and a sparkly
jacket) to stun the audience and earn a standing ovation from all 4
judges.
Louis said Jahmene was “born to sing” and that it was an “amazing
interpretation.” Tulisa told Jahmene he “deserved it” whilst Gary said,
“you have an unbelievable talent.” Nicole thanked Jahmene for a
“Jahmazing moment” and described him as a “blessing.”

Jahmene described the whole experience as a “dream” and said he loved
being able to “lift people up” – however he could barely be heard over
the chanting crowd.

James Arthur summed his experience up as “unbelievable” and “the best
experience of my life.” He said winning would be the “ultimate sense of
achievement” and that he really wants to make his family proud – though
is worried he will wake up and it’s all a dream. Don’t worry James, it
isn’t!
James sang his choice Impossible by Shontelle. An interesting choice
however the lyrics obviously meant something to him as he sung it with
feeling and passion. James’ rendition also finished with a standing
ovation from all four judges.

Louis thanked James for bringing something new every week, whilst
Tulisa told James that she “got” him and understood him from his first
audition. Gary told James not to listen to anyone else as James “knows
best,” whilst Nicole rightly told him “You’re life is never going to be
the same after this.”

The winner’s song will raise money for specially chosen charity,
Together For Short Lives, who help children with life-limiting and
terminal illnesses. The contestants went to help turn on the Downing
Street Christmas lights, where the Prime Minister, David Cameron, told
them that the single would not be subjected to VAT and so all profits
will go to charity!
However before they sung their winner’s song, the two finalists had
to sing their favourite song of the series. Jahmene sung Robbie
Williams’ Angels. He dedicated it to his mum the first time and did so
again tonight, wanting to make sure she got the message of how much she
means to him.

Louis said Jahmene was “living proof dreams can come true” and told
the audience he wanted Jahmene to win. Tulisa said Jahmene sounded “even
more amazing” than the first time and that he “moved everyone.” Gary
said it was a “pleasure to watch” Jahmene every week but it was Nicole
that really summed up Jahmene’s performance. In tears, Jahmene’s mentor
told the former Asda worker: “You’re my role model.”
James decided to spice things up for a bit and went for “Let’s Get It
On.” It involved raunchy dancers and personally singing to each judge,
paying special attention to Nicole Scherzinger.

Both Louis and Gary called James a “ready-made artist” with Gary
specifying that James didn’t need developing by a record-label. Tulisa
agreed and continued to back him to win. Louis also told Nicole that
she was the best mentor ever in X Factor history and gushed about the
American judge for a good 30 seconds! Nicole looked slightly embarrassed
at Louis’ outburst whilst Gary and Tulisa looked slightly put-out..

Also in the first hour of the absolute final One Direction took to
the stage with an energetic performance of their new single, Kiss You.
When Dermot asked them the time-old question of “Who do you want to
win?” Harry immediately said they were James-fans.

We were also treated to a performance from Emeli Sande, who sang and
played the piano to her new tune, Clown. She mesmerised the arena and
looked stunning in a black dress.

Who do you want to win and which winner’s song is your favourite?

Being responsible is a very important quality of a person. This trait is not gained in just a snap of a finger though. Acceptance of responsibilities is a long and winding process that should be inculcated in an individual as early as possible.

Childhood is the most appropriate time for kids to learn how to be responsible. Teaching your kids the value of being responsible could start by giving them a pet. Through this you will be able to achieve your goal while your kids are having an eventful experience as well.

However, you do not just give them any animal you could think of. Bear in mind that the length of time the will be with you may range from months to years. It will never be easy that is why you really have to choose the perfect pet for your kids.

Benefits of Having a Pet
Having pets brings a lot of benefits. Aside from learning the value of being responsible, pets could in fact give their owners unconditional love. They are very reliant to human beings for love and affection but give it back to you too.

Be sure to really take care of them and you will feel their warmth for you. They may just stay where they are but once you approach them you would soon find out that they are regaled with your presence. They may not be able to speak how they feel but you could sense that certain warmth through their body language.

Jumping excitedly, running towards you, or just staying by your side is their way of communication.

Pets have a great way of comforting kids especially when they are sick or having a bad day. They comfort people during the times of need. They may not do it exactly the way another person does but in their own way they would achieve the same goal.

Factors to Consider
Choosing a pet for children depends largely on a number of factors. The child’s current age is a key element in making the decision. Very young kids might unknowingly mishandle or hurt the pet. There is a possibility that they would pull, drop, or pick the pet improperly which would cause undue hurt or pain.

Health of all family members should also be considered. Some people have a hypersensitivity reaction to pets. Hairy animals will most probably exacerbate a person’s asthma attacks. In some instances, contact dermatitis may ensue in various parts of the body especially on those areas that constantly touch or adhere to the pet.

Assess your family’s health status first to avoid them from happening. If you are not certain whether or not your children have allergies, allow them to spend some time at a pet owner’s house. This would help you gauge whether the pet is suitable for them and will not be detrimental to their health.

Another thing that you have to look into is the financial aspect. Determine how much can you allot for the pet and their care including food, vaccine, and grooming. Building an appropriate coop up for a particular animal might be more expensive than you think. Even animals require play pens too.

Apart from that, you have to consider how big your house is and how much space you could spare for the kid’s pet. Ample space will be needed in taking care of pets. If you have a rather small place, then choose an animal that would not require so much.

Having a pet would also entail apportioning the parents’ time. Even though the child promises to take on all the responsibilities, parents still end up helping out. It is important that you supervise your child while she performs the chores to make sure that everything is done right. It is only after a period of time when they could really manage.

Hopefully, the worst case scenario will not happen. Some kids get tired of the pet and the parents end up doing the chores or finding a pet sitter in some cases. In order to avoid this from happening it is important that you find the perfect pet for your kids.

Cheesecakes are delightful sweet or savoury treats that are made with soft and fresh cheeses. They can also be integrated with other several ingredients, including sugar, eggs and cream.

Cheesecake flavorings are also possible and normally include chocolate or rum and fruit toppings, like berries.

Nowadays, there are several variations of cheesecakes. There are those that are designed for dieters and some for vegetarians. But no matter what kind of cheesecake is created, they still follow the basic guideline and usually have the common challenges in cooking.

The Challenges of Making Cheesecakes
In the United States, modern cheesecakes use cream cheese, while ricotta cheese for Italian cheesecakes
and quark cheese for German cheesecakes. The kind of cheese used for the cheesecake not only affects the taste and texture of the pie but also the capability to incorporate other certain types of ingredients.

Additionally, thinly made cheesecake batter will not be structurally sound but can also tend to fall apart
at the table. However, one method of avoiding this is through the use of unflavored gelatin or cornstarch
beaten with eggs.

The most common challenge in cooking cheesecakes is their tendency to develop cracks after being cooled. This is because of the coagulation of the beaten eggs in the cheesecake batter. There are several methods that can avoid this phenomenon. One is to bake the cheesecake in a water-bath or bain-marie in order to ensure even heating.

Other methods also include baking the cheesecake at lower temperatures and cooling it slowly in the oven or blending a small amount of cornstarch in the batter to avoid the coagulation of eggs.

Another problem with cheesecakes is the biscuit base; it can become too soft. To achieve an extra crunch in
the base, you can try replacing a quarter of the crushed biscuits with grape nuts.

Preparing the Cheesecake
It is important to remember to avoid purchasing light or low-fat cream cheese unless the recipe needs it since they can only create optimal results in cheesecakes. Cheesecake can be wrapped in plastic and refrigerated for up to a week. Plain cheesecake, tightly wrapped with plastic then foil in a spring-form pan, can be frozen for three months.

Defrosting the cheesecake can be done inside the refrigerator for eight to twelve hours. More so, it is necessary to allow the cheesecake to return at room temperature before serving. In preparing the cheesecake, most cheesecake recipes call for two procedures, such as: create the base first then bake and adding all the cheese fillings and bake again. The trick in creating baked cheesecakes is not to overcook them. Cheesecakes are best created in a spring-form pan. By using such pans, cheesecakes can be easily removed after the baking process.

To achieve a smooth filling, ensure that the cream cheese and egg are stored at room temperature. Also, do not over-beat the mixture because this can only cause cracks at the top of the cheesecake. Additionally, tap the side of the pan in order to release air bubbles that could cause cracks or bumps in the top of the cake before baking.

If you have toppings for the cheesecake, remember to add them after the cheesecake has cooled, no more than two hours before serving time. If there are still cracks, after all the efforts you placed into it, you can add toppings that can hide the cracks, such as: berries and chocolates.

Water gardens and backyard ponds are for butterflies, frogs, birds, fish, you, and the whole family.
These ponds may be small, may even be no larger than 3 to 4 feet in diameter.

These may be built in patio containers and barrels. Drawing wildlife in your backyard may be done by adding water gardens and ponds. These will not only provide enjoyment and interest but also a natural and relaxing environment as well.

A fish pond in your backyard may become the focal point of your backyard conversation. So spice it up with this tips and techniques.

Where to Put Up a Backyard Pond
Place your fish pond in a place where you can best view it from, whether from a deck or the patio. Make it coincide with the natural surroundings, Do not place the pond where the sun can overheat it. Nestle it in a shaded place but not under the trees.

Landscaping
It is best to slightly elevate the soil surrounding the pond so that excess water will not enter into it. Plan the drainage system of the pond, making sure that it draws the water away from your house.

Landscaping the surroundings around your pond will provide a natural dwelling place for birds and frogs that need water and land. Make sure that electricity is available if you plan to use lights, filters, or a water re-circulating device.

Do not place the pond under the trees to avoid fallen leaves into the pond. This technique will also provide less maintenance to the pond. Expose the pond to sufficient sunlight only since some aquatic plats grow well in full sun and others do not.

Using Pond Liners
Pond liners are used to keep water from leaking into the soil. It is almost always necessary for ponds even if it they are situated in clay soils. Pond liners come in different shapes and sizes. They even include built in waterfalls or any design based on your preferences. They are durable and convenient.

Consider a polyvinyl chloride liner (PVC liner) in building larger ponds. In determining the size of the PVC, you have to know the maximum length, width, and depth of the pond. After which, multiply the maximum depth by 3. Add the answer to the width and the length. Now you have enough PVC to securely hold down the pond edges.

Pond liners come in different thickness as well. The thicker the pond liner, the more resistant it is to punctures. Cement may be considered an optional pool liner. However, it requires more expertise to install and it may cost more than the regular plastic pond liner.

However, considering that many ponds are quite small, other plastics may be used. It may be cheaper but many may break down easily once prolonged exposure to ultraviolet light happens. Some plastics also may prove to be toxic to fish.

Pond Installation
Time your pond building when the ground is not overly wet or frozen. Dig the hole according to the right depth and place (and secure) the pond liner. Then landscape the pond surroundings. Remove any rocks from the surrounding area.

Add water, plants, and a pump. Let the pond sit for a few days before adding plants and fish. Let the plants settle for at least one week before placing the fish.

Then sit back and enjoy your backyard fish pond!
The Clocks went forward by an hour today.

British Summer Time began officially from 1:00am this morning as as clocks all over the Britain went forward by an hour.
Therefore the result of this will be more daylight in the evenings and less in the mornings, also called Daylight Saving Time.

And on the last Sunday of October the clocks do back one hour.

British Summer Time operates from the last Sunday in March until the last Sunday in October.
The UK moves its clocks forward from Greenwich Mean Time by one hour (GMT+ 1).This is known as British Summer Time or BST for short.

School Head-teachers in Oyo State have commended the state Governor,
Senator Abiola Ajimobi, for approving the immediate commencement of
monthly pension payment for retired primary school teachers in the
state.

The primary school head-teachers, under the auspices of
the Association of Primary School Headteachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON),
gave the commendation in a letter issued in Ibadan by Alhaji Bolaji
Adeleke and Mr. I. O. Akanni, state Chairman and Secretary respectively.

It would be recalled that the massive fraud discovered at the Local
Government Pension Board, a body responsible for the payment of pension
allowances to retired primary school teachers and local government
workers, had prevented the teachers who retired in July 2011, from being
placed on monthly pensions.

The situation had also hampered
the payment of their gratuities, a situation that had led to series of
meetings between them and the state government.

Governor
Ajimobi, however, approved the immediate commencement of the pensions to
the retired primary school teachers with effect from January 2013.

The teachers said that that the approval of the pension payment had put
smiles on the faces of the retired senior citizens, even as they
pledged their solidarity and total support to the governor on his
transformation agenda for the state.

Also, a socio-cultural
organization, Ibadan Foundation has also identified with Governor
Ajimobi on his administration’s urban renewal programme in Ibadan and
other major towns and cities across the state.

``It was noted
that though the operations entailed massive dislocation of people with
lots of inconveniences, the urban renewal initiative of your
administration promises to be of long term benefits to the generality of
the people.

``We salute your courage in the endeavour and wish
you more successes in other sectors in the overall interest of the
state,’’ the organization said in a statement issued in Ibadan on Monday
by Engr. Lere Adigun and Alamu Muda-Ayeni, the President and Executive
Secretary respectively.

Customer service is the key to turning a prospective buyer into a customer.
Often, people think that the buying choice is made via price, but nothing could be further from the truth. When you provide exceptional customer service a customer is willing to pay more for that service.

Customer service is the service or care that a consumer receives before, during and after a purchase. It's one of the factors that come in to play when a consumer is determining buying value, the other is the quality of the product or service that is being offered.

Consumers often must encounter an experience to not only be a satisfied customer, but a loyal customer. Customer service is a part of that experience. Top notch service will create loyalty and a returning customer, which is what we all must strive for.

Greet them in a friendly manner, whether that be via telephone, email or in person. Let them know you are to help and that you will take care of them.
Eight-year-old Amarachi was among ten outstanding persons honoured by His Royal Highness, Omo No’ba N’edo Uku Akpolokpolo Erediauwa, at the annual event that recognizes achievers within the King's domain.

The young violinist and dancer stunned Nigerians when she out classed 50 other contestants to emerge the winner of the Nigeria's Got Talent competition, sponsored by Airtel Nigeria.
The honour from the Oba of Benin comes weeks after the show sponsor; Airtel Nigeria treated the youngster to a grand reception preceded by a media tour of selected media houses in Lagos.

Speaking on the development, Airtel Nigeria’s Chief Marketing Officer, Olu Akanmu said the honour was well deserved by the youngster and praised the Oba for recognizing the young talent, adding that such gesture could spur Amarachi to the world stage in the nearest future.

The highly revered Monarch who personally presided over the Awards Presentation ceremony in his Palace, said the recognition was to encourage excellence among the subjects of the kingdom in their various fields.

His words, (Airtel Nigeria’s Chief Marketing Officer, Olu Akanmu) “Amarachi’s success story is a fair picture of our vision and plan for Nigerians especially the youth. We are glad for her achievements at this early stage of her life and our solemn pledge to continue to provide more platforms such as the NGT alongside our primary obligation to create best-in-class telecommunication experience remains firm.
The breakup apparently happened last week. Distance and their busy schedules were cited as factors.
Eighteen-year-old
Bieber is touring to promote his latest album, "Believe," which
contains the hit "Boyfriend." Twenty-year-old Gomez is filming a "Wizards of Waverly Place" reunion for the Disney Channel.
The pair made their relationship public in February 2011.
E! News was the first to report the split.

Bieber
seems to be doing OK, at least publicly. On the red carpet of
Wednesday's Victoria's Secret fashion show he said, "I'd rather be here
than anywhere in the world."

Being stuck in an office all day can result in periods of boredom. Obviously it is important to get all your work done in an appropriate time frame, but taking just a few minutes out to play some silly games can relieve tension, increase team spirit and leave you feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the next big project.

Penny Football

Another old school game; two players sit across from each other at a desk. Make a goal at either end, and have one penny for the ball plus a penny for each player. Taking it in turns, players must flick their own penny into the ‘ball’ with the aim of making it shoot through the opposing goal.

Waste Paper Basketball

Simple yet addictive – screw up a ball of waste paper and take it in turns to try and throw it in the bin. Give yourself one point every time you get it in. Once every player has gained at least one point in a certain position, get the player with the most points to choose a new location for the bin. The good thing about this game is that it is virtually undetectable by your boss – even if they see you participating, you will only look as if you are getting rid of some rubbish rather than playing a game when you should be working.

Tig off Ground

A variation on the old playground game, the aim of this is to never put your feet on the floor. Office chairs allow you to wheel yourself around from place to place without touching the floor, or for the more adventurous you could try clambering from desk to desk or making ‘paving stones’ out of folders and other pieces of equipment. You can either all play together, with the last person out the winner, or you can take it in turns and the other workers can do their best to make you lose.

Buzzword Bingo

This is an increasingly popular game in meetings or situations where a superior or outside speaker has to perform an address. Distribute cards to colleagues with six or so ‘buzzwords’ on each, making everyone’s card slightly different. Phrases such as ‘blue-sky thinking’ or ‘user-centric’ are examples. When the speaker utters these words or phrases, cross them off. The winner cannot claim their prize until they have exclaimed the word ‘bingo’ out loud. This can be done covertly as part of an innocuous question, covered with a cough or for the more daring simply shouted out.

Dares

There are all sorts of silly dares you can encourage co-workers to perform in the course of a normal working day. Stealing someone else’s coffee, running a lap of the office while the boss’s back is turned or suggesting that a meeting is concluded with the singing of the national anthem before launching into it are all things that we would prefer not to do, yet find hilarious if we made someone else do them!
Last Halloween, Christina Aguilera and Matthew Rutler dressed up as pirates.

This year, the singer's costume was a tad more ambiguous, but nonetheless festive. The "Voice" coach sported a voluminous pink wig and white crown, while Rutler was her knight in shining armor.

Speaking of chivalry, Aguilera's "Voice" co-star Adam Levine came to her defense this weekend at a press conference, blasting those who have criticized Aguilera for her weight.

"The one thing about the culture right now, celebrity culture particularly, is people feel like they can just say nasty things about other people whether it's Christina or whether it's me," he said, according to People. "She gets a lot and it pisses me off. Of course I have her back and of course I defend her."

In past years, the 31-year-old singer has dressed up as a sexy nurse, a corpse bride, Marie Antoinette, a skeleton and a pirate. But when Aguilera hosted a spooky party at her home in Beverly Hills Oct. 27, the Voice mentor's sexy, skin-baring costume was more ambiguous.

Wearing a white crown and rocking giant pink curls, Aguilera showed off her supple cleavage in a tight black ensemble. She completed her look with pearls, fishnet stockings and knee-high black boots. The "Your Body" singer's boyfriend, Matthew Rutler, suited up as her knight in shining armor.

Aguilera is currently gearing up for the release of her seventh studio album, Lotus, in stores Nov. 9. "I can't wait for my fans to hear this album," Aguilera tells Us Weekly. "There are a few tracks that I know people are going to really connect to. . . Many of my past albums had clear cut themes and styles, but with this album, I really just put songs on the record that felt good."
